West Palm Beach area dentist describes the dental implant process
At Pure Dental Care, we provide our patients with a wide selection of restorative solutions when tooth loss occurs. We may suggest individuals strongly consider dentures, dental implants, or dental bridges to help repair their smile and bring back their chewing, biting, and speaking efficiency. Many patients seeking a permanent solution may choose our zirconium dental implants.
Zirconium dental implants are made with a ceramic material versus traditional titanium implants which use metal. Metal is not considered a biocompatible material with the body, therefore holistic dentists at Pure Dental Care will avoid using these within patient smiles. Zirconium is a white restoration that is more aesthetic, making it perfect for use near the front of the mouth. Dr. Elizabeth Keith is our resident periodontist who can place implants in most cases. However, if individuals are dealing with a more complicated situation, Dr. Elizabeth Keith may refer patients out to a specialist who can better handle the placement of the zirconium dental implants.
The process is simple. Patients undergo a series of x-rays to ensure they have a proper amount of bone structure for successful placement of the dental implants. Dr. Elizabeth Keith will drill into the bone to place the implant, and then suture the gum line. Some time is necessary for the process of osseointegration to occur, resulting in the bone wrapping around the implant for stability and strength. This can take a few weeks to several months. Then, once the implant is in place and has been successful, a dental crown is fabricated to restore the top of the implant abutment. In cases where patients are using the implants for stability of dentures, the new dentures are made to retrofit with the implants to snap into place and improve their integrity. The entire process from start to finish can take several months but can be a wonderful investment in repairing one’s smile!
